Lloyd Flanders furniture is not only elegant, but durable. Marshall Burns Lloyd developed a process by which cellulose strands can be woven into the wicker fabric. This process was an alternative to the traditional process of wrapping cane around a fame. While technology has developed and made mass production easier, each Lloyd Flanders wicker piece is made with the same intuitive technique. This makes for a continuous woven strand that won't crack or peel. Your weave is smooth from the day you get it and stays consistently smooth over time. 

Attention to Detail

When weaving, the fiber used in the process is twisted into a story cord and wound into spools that feed into the looms. The loom machines then pull from 500 spools simultaneously to create the woven look that you see in all Lloyds pieces. One component that sets this woven outdoor furniture apart is the inclusion of aluminum stakes that are encased in the loom fiber. This helps with durability and stability, giving more life to these furniture pieces. 

After the weaving process, the fabric is sealed to protect against the elements. It is then dried and wrapped onto a large spool. The next step is cutting the fabric into shape before they are fit into the aluminum stakes mentioned earlier. The aluminum stakes are forged into a frame at the Lloyd Flanders facility. They use custom-made stainless steel staples to firmly attach the finished weave onto the frame. All edges are trimmed neatly before the wicker braid is fitted along the perimeter by hand. This ensures that each piece is finished in accordance with the Lloyd Flanders standard. 

Once the furniture piece hits this step, it moves onto the finishing process. Each finished piece receives two coats of Durium paint. This paint is both durable and good for the environment. The final material used in the finishing process is a polyester resin that boasts both durability and flexibility. This resin allows the furniture to withstand the grueling summer heat and temperatures along with the harsh conditions of winter and snow. 

Sustainability

Sustainability is important to many consumers. Lloyd Flanders teak pieces are sustainably grown and harvested with FDC-certified Brazilian teak wood. The teak specifically is great for outdoor wear and tear because it has a high oil concentration and a tighter grain. The wood is naturally resistant to decay and will not fade or brittle over time. In addition to its loom wicker, Lloyd Flanders also has other vinyl all-weather wicker furnishings. These designs are not built using the famed loom process, but they still emulate traditional and contemporary designs while having high quality and durability. It is also possible to place a special order with fabric provided by the customer. Many people have sentimental fabrics or they may have something they consider a better fit for their vision. Whatever the case, it is possible to have that fabric placed onto the cushions and pillows.
